Victoria Soto was a passionate teacher who tragically lost her life protecting her students at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. In her honor, the Vicki Soto Memorial Fund, Inc. was created, which is supported annually by the Vicki Soto 5k. This event takes place through the picturesque Lordship section of Stratford, Connecticut, Vicki’s hometown.
Since it’s inception, the Vicki Soto 5k has hosted thousands of participants, from all around the country, and has raised money to support high school seniors who want to pursue a career in the field of education.
To date, the Vicki Soto Memorial Fund, Inc has awarded $180,000 in educational scholarships and provided $100,000 in literacy, educated and community enrichment.
AND THIS YEAR, WE'RE GOING VIRTUAL!
After much consideration for the safety and well-being of our community, The Vicki Soto Memorial Fund has come to the decision to host our 8th Annual Vicki Soto 5k in a virtual way. We will miss being in your company, but we promise to make this one-of-a-kind event fun and still full of high energy!!
The Vicki Soto Memorial Fund continues to support literacy in our community, our teachers and their classroom needs (in person and virtually) and provide funding to our local nonprofits providing care to our youth and families. Additionally, we also continue to award scholarships annually to new and formerly awarded future teachers.
To show your support, sponsor or register before October 7, 2020, and you will receive a limited-edition VIRTUAL VICKI SOTO 5K electronic bib (that you can download and print from home) and t-shirt (that will arrive to you by mail). As part of your registration and participation, you just might be featured in our social media build-up frenzy of fun taking place November 1st-7th!
